What Is Groove Funnels?

GrooveFunnels is a suite of digital marketing tools designed to help you run a successful online business.

The buzz around this new platform comes from its founders' collective experience, which includes Mike Filsaime, who left Kartra to start GrooveFunnels.

The platform includes tools for creating sales funnels, building websites and landing pages, selling digital and physical products, building and marketing to an email list, and much more.

Keep in mind that GrooveFunnels is currently in beta, so many of the promised features are still in development at the time of this review.

Who Is GrooveFunnels For?

GrooveFunnels competes in the same space as ClickFunnels, Kartra, BuilderAll, and Kajabi.

The goal of using a platform like this is to help you sell a product or service.

This could be a digital product such as an ebook, course, or monthly membership. Or a service such as coaching or consulting.

If you already have a product to sell, and you’re looking for a streamlined way to build a sales engine around it, then GrooveFunnels is a good fit for this.

What do I Like Most about GrooveFunnels?

Cool thing #1: It has a Forever Free plan

Yes, you can TODAY signup for GrooveFunnels for free.

Of course, there are some limitations.

The free plan gives you access to:

  • GrooveSell + GrooveAffiliate
  • GroovePages (Lite)

As the Lite implies, there are some limited features for the page/website builder, but it’s enough to get you started.

What’s nice, though, is that you can use your custom domain names even on the free plan.  And you even earn 20% commissions as a free affiliate.

Cool thing #2: It has a sweet affiliate program

GrooveFunnels offers a nice affiliate program with some huge potential.

Free users earn 20% recurring commissions. In contrast, Platinum members earn 40% recurring plus 10% 2nd-tier commissions. However, the recurring aspect will only happen once Groove switches to its monthly plans.

Combined with the GrooveFunnels free plan and lifetime deal, it makes it super easy to make money with the GrooveFunnels affiliate plan.

It’s effortless to promote the Groove free plan to people. And you’re going to get a lot of upgrades because the lifetime deal is such a killer offer, and people are incentivized to get the 40% commissions.

My GrooveFunnels affiliate commissions have already covered the cost I paid for the lifetime deal, so my account is completely paid for.

GrooveFunnels Review

Cool thing #3: It already has a large, active community

When it comes to buying into a product ecosystem, community matters.

Whether it’s seeking advice, troubleshooting issues, or just sharing ideas, having a good community makes a big difference in your overall experience.

This is a big stumbling block for many new products, but with over 108,000 Facebook group members at the time of this review, that’s not the case here with GrooveFunnels.

Groove Funnels Facebook group

A major part of this growth is attributed to free accounts' availability and the lifetime payment option.

Many group members have upgraded to a paid plan and already have successful online businesses, so there is a lot of knowledge being dropped. So it’s well worth your time to participate in.

Cool thing #4: They are rapidly improving the platform

Yes, GrooveFunnels is still on the ground floor, and it has noticeable issues. But what I’ve been really impressed with is how fast they are improving the platform. Bugs are being fixed, and new features are being added every week.

I like knowing when new features are being planned to be released. So that’s why I love their product roadmap infographic.

They also have a page for users to submit feedback and vote on the features they’d like to see, which is really cool as well.

What Are The Annoying Things About GrooveFunnels?

Annoying thing #1: The GroovePages editor is not ready for prime time

There are a couple of things about the GroovePages editor that are pretty nice. I like the ability to add pre-made blocks to my pages. The designs all look good, and it definitely saves time when creating your pages.

And there’s a fair amount of customization you can do with each element on the page.

But as I’ve played around with the editor myself, there’s a lot about it that will drive you crazy.

The drag-and-drop aspect of the editor seems to be really hit or miss. For example, I found that moving and resizing elements don’t always work as expected.

Even something simple like trying to select multiple text paragraphs to change their font was much more painful than I had hoped.

These are just some of the quirks I encountered while building my first Groove landing page.

Annoying thing #2: The platform is clunky and lacks polish

It’s not just GroovePages that has issues. The platform as a whole lacks polish. It starts with the small, seemingly insignificant things like an arrow pointing the wrong way to indicate growth…

Groove Funnels lacks polish

… up to entire sections of the tool not displaying things they seemingly should be.

Groove Funnels publish setting

This is just a handful of many issues I encountered, including:

  • The interface is clunky and slow.
  • Some clickable objects not functioning as expected
  • Numerous typos inside the software itself
  • Odd choice of naming conventions
  • Small bugs or otherwise poor UX decisions
  • Design inconsistencies

While these are all things that can easily be ironed out in future updates, it doesn’t make for a great first impression.

An Inside Look at GrooveFunnels

GroovePages (Landing Pages & Website Builder)

GroovePages features your classic drag-and-drop page builder experience. Like most page builders, it can build individual landing pages or a set of pages to make up an entire website.

Interestingly (or confusingly), regardless of whether you intend to build an entire website or individual page, GroovePages refers to all of these as Sites.

GroovePages

When creating a new Site, you’ll go through the usual motions of choosing a page template before making any changes to it (though you can start from scratch too).

While there aren’t many templates available yet, the ones they do have are well-designed. Some even have sister templates that work together — useful for keeping a consistent theme for multi-page sites.

With that being said, I would like to see more complete sets of templates, each with all the critical pages of a website.

Creating a new site

Now we get to the fun part; the template editor. Right away, you’ll notice it uses a tried-and-true layout that other page builders use.

The left sidebar has your element-based tools, and the top bar has the page settings and responsive toggles. The bottom bar displays breadcrumbs, and the main area is a visual representation of the page itself.

What can I say? It looks clean.

Page building

Clicking any element on the page will open another sidebar (on the right) with options to tweak the element styling or positioning.

As far as options go, it’s not as extensive as page builders like Elementor or Thrive Architect, but it gives you more to play with than the stock WordPress editor.

You can also enable Expert mode to open up some advanced options like drop shadows, borders, hover states, attributes, and more.

Page builder

When adding new elements or widgets, the left sidebar gives you a series of individual elements like text, images, and buttons.

The number of elements available is exaggerated here as they’ve broken things like columns and headings into multiple different widgets, which is typically not the case with other page builders.

Still, there are more advanced elements like progress bars, countdowns, maps embed, form fields, styled lists, and custom code blocks that you can add to your pages.

Page builder elements

When it comes to adding new sections, the left sidebar lets you pick between Blocks or Wireframes, which are different types of predesigned sections.

These include things like entire sections of content, calls to action, and hero sections. And you have more complex layouts that include forms and galleries — all of which can be dragged onto your page, between any other section.

Unfortunately, some of these sections aren’t fully built out yet…oops.

Placeholders

The Pages tab is where you can start building out your website instead of an individual landing page.

Here, you can add a new page based on the same templates as before, an exact duplicate, or from scratch if you prefer. This page is then automatically added to your navigation bar unless you choose otherwise.

You can then switch between your site's different pages using the Pages menu or the dropdown menu at the top.

Pages menu

Because 99% of the page is static content, it makes it very difficult to update the site globally, particularly for things like your header and footer (outside of the navigational links).

I mean, it works… sure. But this lack of dynamic content severely limits what you can pull off from a technical standpoint.

Finally, the Popups tab lets you create a popup for any of your pages. You create simple overlays based on pre-designed templates and set them to standard, entry, or exit triggers.

Popup builder

The popup builder also takes full advantage of the page builder, as you can use the same elements and sections to get the look and feel you want.

GroovePages ticks a lot of boxes in the feature department.  But one thing I can’t portray through screenshots is just how sluggish the page-building experience is. Everything happens a second or two after you interact with a button or object.

It has the makings of a great page/website builder, but it’s certainly not an improvement over competing solutions. At least not in its current form.

GrooveSell (Shopping Cart & Funnel Builder)

You can’t have a sales funnel without the “sales” part, and that’s where GrooveSell comes into the picture.

This is your shopping cart functionality, used for processing payments from customers. It’s comparable to other shopping cart platforms like SamCart, ThriveCart, and PayKickStart.

The dashboard gives you an overview of sales made through the platform over any specified period of time, including metrics like sales, revenue, commissions, profit, and so on.

GrooveSell

You can even toggle between raw metrics or revenue-based metrics, which is a nice touch you don’t often see.

There’s also a Transactions report that gives you a more linear view of your sales, including customer names, what they bought, how much they paid, and when exactly they paid it.

In particular, I liked the inclusion of ‘Failed Rebills’ as it provides a way to reclaim some lost revenue:

Failed Rebills

To populate this sales dashboard with data, you will need actually to generate some sales.

This is where you’ll find the product's meat and potatoes because GrooveSell houses the funnel-building tool that will ultimately be your sales engine.

There are several steps to this process—11, to be exact—so I won’t cover every step here. Instead, I’ll highlight some of the important aspects.

Edit product page

The first step involves choosing the type of product you’ll be selling, be it a front-end or back-end product.

Next, you’ll choose a payment method, such as one-time payment, recurring billing, or installments (split-pay). You can also enable a free or paid trial along with multiple payment options.

This is followed up by an integration step that lets you connect different payment gateways, such as PayPal or Stripe. GroovePay is also an option, though you might want to compare fees.

GroovePay

GrooveFunnels will then ask you to input the URL of your sales page and thank you page. These can be pages created using GroovePages or your own custom-built pages.

However, when it comes to the checkout page, you’ll need to let the GrooveSell app generate a checkout page for you since the other features—like popup checkouts and custom checkouts—are still unavailable.

You can still configure basic styling and customize the form fields that display on checkout, along with enabling/disabling 1-click upsells, configuring cart abandonment, adding testimonials, and more.

Checkout method

The next step is to add an order bump, but this feature is also still in development and currently can’t be enabled.

You’ll then be prompted to enable some basic funnel tracking (optional) and select your fulfillment method. Except, yet again, most of these options are not yet available to choose from.

fulfillment method

If you’re selling a digital product, you will need to integrate with an email marketing service to take care of fulfillment since GrooveMail is not ready yet.  Fortunately, GrooveFunnels does integrate with many popular providers, including ActiveCampaign, Aweber, and MailChimp.

Coming to the end of the process, you can activate the affiliate portal for this funnel if you plan to recruit affiliates. There’s a fair amount of customization here, including tiered commissions and dedicated landing pages.

Note: Analytics for affiliate sales can also be found in the GrooveAffiliate dashboard, an extension of the GrooveSell sales dashboard.

The affiliate portal

The second to last step is to add social proof such as testimonials to your funnel, except… you guessed this is another feature that isn’t yet available.

GrooveSell will then ask you to place a tracking pixel on the sales page, which requires you to copy and paste some code.

Copy code on the sales page method

If you do happen to activate the product's affiliate features, you can now create promotional assets like swipes, banners, and other content that can be used to drive traffic.

Overall, selling is one of the most important areas of online business, and while there’s clear potential in the product, it’s still very much a prototype as far as funnel builders go.

GrooveFunnels Pricing

GrooveFunnels has both free and paid options.

The free version of GrooveFunnels gives you access to GrooveSellGrooveAffiliate as well as GroovePages Lite.

One of the Lite version's limitations is you won’t get access to GrooveMail, which is the email marketing aspect of Groove Funnels.

You are also limited to 1 funnel template, 3 sites, and 3 funnels. And you will only earn 20% on any affiliate sales you make.

However, it is completely free for life, and you don’t even need a credit card to sign up.

On the other hand, you can purchase a GrooveFunnels Platinum Lifetime license right now for a one-time fee of $1,397.

This gives you access to everything that GrooveFunnels is planning to offer without paying any recurring subscriptions.

Plus, you get 40% affiliate commissions and 10% tier 2 commissions.

Once GrooveFunnels moves out of Beta, the lifetime license option will go away, and there will be 2 monthly payment plans for the platform.

The Silver plan will be $99 a month, and Gold will be $199 a month.

However, it’s still unclear when this will actually happen.

Final Thoughts

You must have the proper expectations for GrooveFunnels. It is currently a BETA product, and it shows.

There are lots of features that are missing, and performance is lacking in some areas.

But you can’t deny the promise of GrooveFunnels.  And the free plan and the lifetime offer are really compelling reasons to give GrooveFunnels a try.

Especially if they can fix the Page builder issues and live up to even half of its promises.

But will it? We will see.

Mike Filsaime has already proven he can make a great product in Kartra, and by investing in GrooveFunnels, you are betting he can do the same here.
